June 2022

President Sue had a problem at our June meeting – The speaker didn’t turn up.

We were all expecting a talk on life as a crew member on the Royal Yacht Britannia, very suitable for the Platinum Jubilee month we thought but it was not to be. So in true WI style we improvised.

Judith Ragdale read us her short essay on ‘My Community’ which was excellent. It was full of anecdotes and observations from Lockdown and how the people of Albrighton came together and helped those who needed it. It is over two years ago now but Judith had captured its essence perfectly.

Jenny Wynne, Vice Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, who we are fortunate to have as a member also gave us an off the cuff talk about what the position entails. The duties, the commitments and the wide variety of people she meets. All in her capacity as representative of the Crown.

It was very interesting and gave us an insight into a role which most people have no opportunity to learn about. Jenny, as a representative of her Majesty was probably more suitable for our Jubilee meeting than any crew member, don’t you think!

In July we are hearing all about the work of The Blood Bikers.

Visitors always welcome on the second Tuesday of the month, but not August, at the Red House 7.30pm.
