March 2024

In March we welcomed Dr Mary Linington who gave a very interesting talk about ‘The Suffragette Movement in Shropshire’.  She was able to inform us that although we are all aware of the movement as a whole, in 1908 the very first public meeting of the local branch of Women’s Suffrage Society was held in The Public Assembly Rooms in Shrewsbury.   It was said that bringing politics into the family would be an excellent thing, and well instructed women with votes would mean more than they could imagine in making the world a better place!!!!  Some members are visiting Bletchley Park later in the month, on a trip organized by Shropshire Federation.
