September 2022

Believe it, or not, we celebrated our 55th Birthday on 13th September 2022 and we still have some original members from that first meeting. This was an important milestone and we decided to celebrate in style.

In typical WI fashion, it was decided, as it was our birthday, that we needed a cake!!!! In previous years a supper had been provided, and although this hadn’t taken place in recent years, due to COVID-19, this was also arranged. The theme for the evening was ‘The Forties’, so ‘Judith Foote and Friends’ were engaged to entertain us with some old favourites, accompanied by Stephen Cooper on keyboard. How appropriate that we decided to decorate the room with union flags and serviettes, when we had all received the news of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen the previous week. We were all saddened by this news, as she was a remarkable lady and a great example to us all. WI members held a special place in their heart for her.
The evening began with a resounding rendition of Jerusalem and we all tucked into the lovely food, swilled down with some nicely chilled wine (or fruit juice). The cake was cut by one of our newest members and the evening ended with many happy faces.
We welcome visitors every month, meeting at The Red House on the second Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm. Please come along and join in our October meeting which is a talk about ‘Hearing Dogs for the Deaf’.
It is such a good way to make new friends and I can assure you we are not all about Jam and Jerusalem.
